Secret book club visit
The September theme for the epic book-clubbers of Read3r’z Re-vu was ‘secrets’. Of course there are quite a few of these in Promising Azra.
Words On-Line
Here are the latest on-line interviews about Promising Azra.
What’s being said about Azra
It’s still early days, but plenty of people have reviewed Promising Azra with enthusiasm.
Around the bookshops
It seems that the first couple of months after a book is launched means there’s plenty of scribbling inside the covers of books. I feel like a vandal, but I suppose I will get used to it.
Azra in New Zealand
That got your attention, didn’t it? No, this is not the title of the sequel. I’m not telling where she goes yet… But I am delighted that there is buzz around Azra in various bookshops in New Zealand, and I dropped in for a signing at the fabulous Women’s Bookshop in Auckland. Every shelf is purple!
Zonta Northern Beaches
A warm welcome on a cold night from the good ladies of Zonta Club Northern Beaches. Great to speak about forced marriage in Australia, and to answer many interesting questions.
Northern Beaches Launch
A dark Avalon Beach alleyway was the portal to an evening of northern beaches Azra-ness. In conversation with Libby Armstrong of Beachside Bookshop, I talked about what inspired me to write Promising Azra, and also about all the help I received along the way.
Launch of Promising Azra
It was standing room only at the official launch of Promising Azra at Kinokuniya in Sydney. Dr Eman Sharobeem from SBS kicked things off by explaining the context for the story, as well as her involvement in my initial research. I then acknowledged the assistance of my many readers and helpers, reciting a list of their (mostly helpful) suggestions about chemistry, mixed martial arts, caterpillars, Pakistani food, Islam, roll-call times, and dogs.
Launch Invitation
Promising Azra will be officially launched by Dr Eman Sharobeem, whose work with Sydney teenagers inspired the book.
The event is at Kinokuniya in Sydney on Thursday 28 July 2016, and If you’d like to come along, please RSVP to the book store. More details here.
